Irene Doris Sicks

Irene Doris (Drendel) Sicks, 84, of Crystal Lake died Saturday, February 9th, in Mesa AZ.

She was born on 7/14/1923 in Huntley IL to Frank and Henrietta Drendel. She had three brothers and a sister, the late Floyd (Marge) Drendel, George (Marcella) Drendel, Vernon (Shirley) Drendel, and Joyce (Alva) Allen. She married Ernest Lloyd Sicks on 8/17/1943, and they have lived in Crystal Lake for over 60 years.

Irene is survived by her husband; four children, Don (Susan) Sicks of Naples, FL, LCDR Glenn Sicks, USCG(ret.) of Juneau, AK, Carol (Adam) Sicks Lontai of Peoria, IL, and Robert Sicks, of Palos Park, IL; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Sicks, Sarah (Steve) Sicks Cohen, Brennan Sicks, Joseph Lontai, Amanda (Jason) Lontai Seats, Jon Lontai, Dan Lontai, Laura and Lindsay Sicks; and five great-grandchildren, Lucy, Campbell & Ginger Sicks, and Abigail & Casey Cohen.

Irene was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake, and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mesa, AZ. Irene graduated from High School in Huntley IL and worked at the Elgin Watch factory prior to her marriage. She was a homemaker most of her life, and also helped manage the family landscaping business. She enjoyed square dancing with the Lords & Ladies Square Dance Club, traveling with their Airstream trailer friends and participating in various activities at their winter home in Valle Del Oro in Mesa. She loved family gatherings, gardening and growing flowers.

Visitation will be on Friday February 22, 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 West Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A funeral Mass will be held at noon, Saturday, February 23rd at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 451 West Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dean Street, Huntley, IL 60142.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Crystal Lake, IL.
