Jacqueline "Jackie" MacKenzie, 91, of Elkhart died Nov. 17, 2022, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Bob (Denice) MacKenzie of Denver, Colorado, daughter, Leigh Ann (Kevin) Dolan of Atlanta, Georgia, and three grandchildren, Ryan (Jacqueline Van De Velde) Dolan, Erin (Peter) Nickalls, and Brett (Allison Hostetler) Dolan. Also surviving are a brother, Martin (Bobbi) Stover of Dayton, Ohio, nephews and a niece. She is predeceased by her spouse, Gordon G. MacKenzie, and her parents, Luther and Reva Stover.
Jackie graduated from Elkhart High School and Indiana University. At IU, she was the first female editor-in-chief of the yearbook, the Arbutus. Upon graduation, Jackie taught elementary grades in Whittier, California, Seattle, and Indianapolis. Her minor degree in art led to a lifelong love of painting. She was a member of The Elkhart Art League (president and instructor), The Midwest Museum of American Art, St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society, Northern Indiana Pastel Society, Northern Indiana Artists (life member), Elkhart Gallery Artists (co-founder), and chairman of several Leeper Park Art Fairs in South Bend. Her paintings appeared in many juried exhibits, including two paintings sent to Russia to be included in a show sponsored by the Union of Russian Woman and Association of Moscow Women Artists. Her paintings are a part of the permanent collection of the Lerner Theater and the Midwest Museum of American Art. She loved painting with friends on location and being inspired by the beauty of the landscape.
Jackie also enjoyed genealogy, spending years researching and writing about her ancestors. She was a member of the Elkhart County Genealogy Society and a member of the William Tuffs Chapter of DAR, and First Families of Franklin for original pioneer families of Tennessee.
Jackie was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart, serving as teacher, deacon, elder and co-founder of POGO (Presbyterians on the Go), a senior adult ministry. She was also a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, Tri Kappa Sorority, PEO, Coeur de Cerf, and charter member of the Wellfield Botanic Gardens. Her favorite affiliation, however, was "Sew & Tell," a group of longtime friends who met weekly for over 60 years to sew, knit, discuss problems, share a laugh, and provide support to one another through life's ups and downs.

Jackie was my mother's best friend for many years. They both loved painting together at thenElkhart art league and island park. She said she loved me like a son. She took me to dinner once at Flytrap's restaurant. I still weep for my mother after 16 years.
