STATE ROAD — Mr. Ronald Lee Jennings, 79, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Jennings was born April 12, 1935, in Mecklenburg County to Ralph and Alma Ruth Doby Jennings. Mr. Jennings was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard and a retired electrical contractor. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin. Mr. Jennings was also a member of the Elkin Masonic Lodge #454, an ordained deacon and was an avid salt water fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Kay S. Jennings of the home; son, Ron Jennings Jr. and wife Tina of Elkin; daughter, Tonya Smith and husband Michael of State Road; brothers, Ned Jennings of Montana, Ralph Jennings Jr. of South Carolina, Gary Jennings of Florida; sisters, Cheryl Trail of Virginia, Phyllis Cantor of Virginia and Linda McKinnon of Florida; sister-in-law, Betty Caudle of Rockingham; and grandson, Noah Smith. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson and Dr. Rick Bennett officiating. The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Elkin, P.O. Box 618, Elkin, NC 28621; or Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank Betty Caudle, Forsyth Medical Center ICU 3, Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home and all of Mr. Jennings family and friends for their care.
