Carmen V. Martinez

1925 - 2018

On June 11, 2018, the Lord embraced our precious Carmen V. Martinez in His loving arms and called her home. Carmen was born in El Paso, Texas, on April 18, 1925, and raised in Smeltertown. She lived a long and full life, having worked at Asarco in her youth, married her soul mate and raised five loving children in Central El Paso. She was a great cook, and menudo was one of her specialties. Mom was God's gift to us as she raised all her children selflessly. She lived a life full of faith, trust and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a free spirit full of love and care for all her family. With heavy hearts, we commend her soul to the Lord and rejoice her new life in Heaven, where she is reunited with her loving one and only, her husband, Camilo Martinez Sr.
Carmen is also preceded in death by her son Gerardo (Jerry ) Martinez, her daughter Carmen Cabada, her grandson Ruben Martinez Jr., and her son-in-law Ruben Cabada.
She is survived by her children, Ruben Martinez Sr. (Vivian), Camilo Martinez III (Rosa), and Olga M. Salgado; daughter-in-law Dolores Z. Martinez; sister Elvira Salcido; along with 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a vigil/rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Homes-Americas, 9521 N. Loop Drive. The church service will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at San Ignacio Catholic Church, 408 Park St. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragosa Road.
