ELIZABETH SALOM Obituary

Elizabeth Salom Liz, or as we know her Yaya was born in El Paso, Texas to Tony & Soledad Salom on January 16, 1953.
In 1972, Richard C White, Member of Congress recognized Liz's accomplishment of being the first female student body president in the history of El Paso High School. She graduated from UTEP earning both a Bachelor's of Science in Education, and a Masters of Education. After these life milestones she was employed by EPISD at Beall Elementary School where she faithfully dedicated 25 years towards children's health, and community welfare. In 1995-1996 Liz was honored as Beall Elementary School Campus Teacher of the Year. With all this her greatest accomplishment was her selflessness. Better than most Liz understood that life was family and family was life. She donated a kidney to her sister Maggie granting us all the gift of time with a loved one. On March 30, 2017 our angel was called home by the Lord. Liz is survived by her brothers John(Martha) & Jesse (Anna) Salom, her sisters Martha Romero (Richard), Nacima Kujok (Mohammed) and Soledad Baca (Epifiano), 14 nephews & nieces, 17 grand nephews & nieces, and finally her favorite companion her puppy dog Maxie. We know Liz is looking down from above cheering on her favorite teams: the fearless EPHS Tigers, mighty UTEP Miners, and valiant Dallas Cowboys. A Visitation will be held Monday, April 3, 2017 from 5-9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler. A Mass will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Church 900 West Missouri, a Graveside service to follow at Evergreen Cemetery Alameda.
Pallbearers for Aunt YaYa, will be nephews: Richard A. Romero, John Salom Jr., David Romero, Jesse Salom Jr., Nicholas Romero, Michael Salom, Anthony Salom, Paul Salom, and Nathan Salom. Honorary Pallbearers: John Salom, Jesse Salom, and Uncle George Salom. In lieu of flowers and keeping with her spirit of giving, contributions can be made to Holy Family Church or National Shrine of St. Jude, 205 W. Monroe St., Chicago, IL, 60606 Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West. www.martinfuneralhomewest.com

Liz had adopted my mother (Margot Springer) as her mother while teaching at Beall Elementary. She and my mom had a great relationship. Liz always took good care of my mom. My mother now has advanced Alzheimer's and is not able to understand what has happened to Liz but I know she would be greatly missed by my mom. When my mom goes to heaven she and Liz can catch up old times together.

Liz cannot help but be missed by anyone who ever met her. She was a bright light, a positive, caring friend who always brought a smile to everyone around her. We were high school students together and although we didn't see one another after graduation, hearing of her passing brought happy memories of her and sadness to hear she was gone. For her family there are no words of comfort to ease your pain, but a knowing you are not alone in missing her. Joe & Sandra Payan

When our family thinks of Liz Salom, kindness is the one word that comes to mind right away. She was a kindhearted person who helped her family, friends, students, and those she cared about. Personally, she impacted our family as a friend, supporter and fellow educator. Her sense of humor, love for sports, heart of gold and skills as an educator will never be forgotten or dismissed. We know you went straight to heaven and became one of God's angels. Our condolences to her family and loved ones. Thank you for all you did for us, Liz. We love you. -The Cordovas

Oh Liz was one Of The best friends My Momma Ever Had. I am going to miss her dearly. I want to thank You Liz For Everything you did for my momma and Daddy. I know You are there in Paradise with my Momma, Daddy, And Jaime Having a reunion and Celebrating Your Arrival in Paradise With Our Lord.
My Memory of her was Coronado was playing EPHS and my momma and I went to the football game. We saw her There and sat on the EPHS side. I got up to sing the school song and cheer my team on. When a lady came up to me and sat me down and told me to be quiet. I got up again and she sat me down again. Liz came to my rescue and told her that I could sit wherever I wanted. If she wanted to do anything to do it to her. The woman left and I Thanked Her for that. I will never forget that. She was my body guard.
But all and all, She was my mommas best friend and I want to thank her for everything she did for my family. I Love Her And Will Miss Her Always.

Ms Salom,

You were always a mentor and an inspiration. I was lucky enough to be one of your students at Beall from 1976-1982. Thank you for what you contributed to my love of sports And appreciation for staying fit. For many years I wanted to be a coach after college because of your influence. I know you're blowing that ever so recognizable whistle of yours up in heaven now. Sadness in my heart? Yes.... but so so many smiles on my face as I sit here recalling my beautiful childhood at Beall Elementary thanks to you. I always aspired to make you proud of my excelling in physical education. Thank you.
