Esperanza Lucero Obituary

Esperanza Garcia Lucero

El Paso - Esperanza Garcia Lucero, 93, passed away peacefully early Friday morning (April 9, 2021) at home surrounded by loving family. Born in 1927, Esperanza (Hope) was the youngest of twelve children of Alejandro and Hipolita Garcia. She was born in Vinton, raised in Canutillo and a proud El Paso High School graduate (class of 1946). On a Greyhound bus bound for California, she met the love of her life Antonio E. Lucero. Together they traveled the world moving from post to post with the U.S. Army. She was strong and supportive through it all and ready for any challenge.

E. Lucero, LVN was licensed in the State of Michigan and Texas. In 1969, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens, MI. Upon settling back in El Paso in 1973, Hope worked for Hotel Dieu, Vista Hills, and Sierra Medical Center-Outpatient until her retirement in 1989. She was an avid volunteer who loved to help others, devoting her time between the NCO Wives Club, PTA, El Paso Hospitality Club, and Red Cross, among others. She was also a member of the El Paso Sergeants Major Association and a proud Plaza Theatre StarKeeper.

Madre cherished her family above all else and looked forward to planning Garcia family reunions. Until only recently, she would send hand-written cards keeping in touch with relatives. Mom was famous for sending fruitcakes to everyone during the holiday season. She knew how to throw a great party, was George Strait's biggest fan and never took a picture without applying lipstick first.

Nana is preceded in death by her beloved husband Antonio, daughter Mary Anne and her eleven siblings - reunited at last. She is survived by her four children Katherine G. Lucero, Anthony E. Lucero Jr. (Cathy), Patricia L. Hughes (Harold), and Anna Marie Lucero. She was adored by her six grandchildren, Katherine V. Rose, Angelique, Ariel & Anthony III Lucero, Elissa & Evan A. Hughes and her three great-grandchildren.

Out of respect and safety for our extended Garcia and Lucero family, we are limited in the number of mourners. Visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rosary to follow and Funeral Service at 1 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer St., El Paso, TX. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Please visit this online registry at www.FunerariaDelAngelKM.com to share a picture or memory, and please remember Tia Hope in your prayers. Her passing marks the end of an era.

A celebration of life is being planned by the family and will take place later this year - please wait to be contacted.
