Margaret Palafox Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Vogt Palafox, born in El Paso, Texas, on January 5, 1930, died at home surrounded by family on January 9, 2015. She was a life long resident of El Paso. Days before her death, she joyfully celebrated her 85th birthday with friends and loved ones and happily reminisced about a lifetime of fond memories. She graduated from Loretto Academy in 1948, followed by Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1951. In her nursing career that followed, she worked as a surgical nurse for a neurosurgeon then later scrubbed in with Drs. Breck, Basom and Leonard of the El Paso Orthopaedic Surgery Group. After marrying and starting a family, she dedicated herself to caring for her children and partnering with her husband, Mario Palafox, MD, to build an innovative orthopaedic clinic that provided compassionate care with a loving spirit. Together, she and Mario worked long hours integrating work and family life and proudly pursued and accomplished their dreams. In addition to her professional career, she also dedicated many hours of service to the El Paso community serving on the board of the El Paso Cancer Treatment Center, as well as volunteering with the El Paso County Medical Auxiliary, among others. She greatly enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and extended boundless generosity, kindness, and nurturing to many others who were like family to her. She loved flowers, watching football games, home remodeling shows, and her favorite daytime soap opera. The world was a better place with Peggy in it. She had a beautiful heart and strong spirit and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of spending time with her. She was preceded in death by her spouse of forty years, Mario Palafox, MD, beloved mother and father, Anastasia and Andrew Vogt, infant daughter Margaret Palafox, and brothers Charles and William Vogt. She is survived by daughters, Julie Palafox Uzzi (Tony) and Gina Palafox Roberts (Craig), and sons Andrew Palafox, MD (JoAnn), Mario Palafox (Mary), and Charlie Palafox (Camille), and grandchildren Paige Palafox Palmer and Max Palafox Palmer, Adam Palafox Roberts, Miranda Palafox Roberts, and Monica Palafox Roberts, William Joseph Palafox, Maria Francis Palafox and Gianna Grace Palafox, CharlesMario Henderson Palafox and Scarlett Elizabeth Margaret Palafox, her step-children Patricia Palafox and David Palafox, MD (Patty), her step-grandsons Thomas David Palafox (Amanda) and Patrick James Palafox, and her children's step-children Caitlyn Christina Uzzi, Alec Ryan Owen and Ashtyn Nicholas Owen, and her niece Peggy Vogt Kramer and children. My sincerest condolences to the family. I worked for Dr. Palafox in the late 60's for a short time before moving to CA., but have fond memories of Mrs. Palafox treating his employees to dinner & a movie, as well as other kind gestures. May she & Dr. Palafox rest in peace. It was an enormous pleasure to have known them both.

Peggy lived a long and beautiful life. I am so fortunate to have known her, to have made so many wonderful memories with her and her wonderful family and to have considered her part of my family. Peggy was such a light in my life and in my grandma's. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

El Paso has lost one it's most prominent, beautiful, caring and generous mothers. I got to know Mrs. Palafox when I was a young man in high school. I spent a good majority of my time at the Palafox home with Andy, Mario, Charlie, Gina and Julie as a young boy. We did so many wonderful things that were so much fun and all of that was fostered by Mrs. Palafox and Dr. Mario with Love! She was just the best mother that cared so much for her children and their friends. She was so beautiful and would just make you feel so special whenever you walked into her home. She would have all of us boys and girls regularly for dinner almost daily at times with a welcome heart and smile. Her home was the center of our world! She spent her life caring for others and gave her time, money and heart to those in need. Mrs. Palafox had a profound impact on my life and always welcomed me with a hug and love. I loved her very much and will miss her forever. I pray to God to give the Palafox family the courage to overcome this grief. May God bless you all, and endow you with his love and care forever!

Love,

I only knew Margaret (Peggy) because my sister is married to her stepson, David. I must say that she was a charming person with a wonderful sense of humor. I want to send all the Palafox family my condolences and prayers.

May a candle always burn bright to guide you to the wonderful reunion awaiting you and those whom have gone before. May your family look to the stars and rejoice in knowing, those left behind are not alone, rather comforted and blessed by memories, laughter, warmth and love given to them by their parents and sibling and families. No matter the loss, take comfort in prayers and blessing sent to each of you. May she rest in peace, knowing she was very well loved and will be missed.

I will cherish time spent with my aunt Peggy, from the time she lived on Baltimore to the many great trips I experienced to El Paso. She and Mario gave me my first job at the clinic. There was always a joy in her that was felt by all who knew her. She was the first in line to help out where she could and to include you in gatherings and trips (there were some great ones, too). It was through her that I learned the definition of motherhood. I love you, Peggy and will carry you in my heart until we meet, again. Pamie
