James Swoger Obituary

"He loved his Country"

James H. Swoger, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 7, 1926, a son of the late James and Genevieve Evans Swoger.

James was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He served in WWII and loved following Cathedral Prep and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank.

"Today we lost one of the most amazing men I have ever known. Father of six, grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of 16 with three on the way. A veteran, everyone's friend, and our family's cheerleader - whether it was a dance recital, soccer game, basketball, baseball, or even a play - he was there for us all. A devoted husband of 66 wonderful years, his legacy will live within us all. We love you so much and know you will be smiling down on us all from Heaven. Jessica"

He is preceded in death by his sister, Janet Rodgers.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruthe Tucker Swoger; four daughters, Cindi Ruf (Ronald) of Erie, Kryss Craig (Ralph) of Kittanning, Pa., Becke Stravinsky of Ormond by the Sea, Fla., and Melinda Powell (Jeffrey) of McKean, Pa.; two sons, Jim Swoger (Ronda) of Albion, Pa. and Samuel Swoger (Lisa Rugani) of Erie; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three more great-grandchildren on the way; two sisters, Marilou Bryan of Pittsburgh and Patricia Swoger of Edinboro; two brothers, Rev. Msgr. John Swoger of Edinboro and Peter Swoger (Virginia) of Warren, Pa. His Godchildren, Dan Rodgers and Mark Swoger and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. with his brother, Msgr. John Swoger, officiating. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.

There was ever a dull moment on lower Plum Street living next to Jim Swoger and meeting his parents. Mr. Swoger was warm and loving person. He embraced our family and shared many celebrations. Along with his wife, they blessed us with memories we will cherish for ever. Watch over us kind sir, Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come follow me, and I will give you rest.
