John Reiser Obituary

John B. Reiser John B. Reiser, age 98, a charming and gentle man, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed peacefully from this life on November 26, 2007. He was married to Grayce- Marie (Souders) Reiser (a Mercyhurst College alumna and a teacher in the Erie School District) for more than 50 years, until her sudden and untimely death in 1989. His loving memory of her and the love and support of their children sustained him for the remainder of his life. John was the son of John A. Reiser and Anna Hamburger Reiser and the brother of the late Gilbert and Bernard “Chub” Reiser, and Kathryn Brugger, all formerly of Erie. John, a 1927 Cathedral Prep alumnus, graduated from the University of Detroit in 1932 (which explains his intense loyalty to every Detroit sports team) and returned to Erie where he remained throughout his working life, except for a period of service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was engaged in wholesale grocery sales at the A.F. Schultz Company and later at the Lowell Company until 1969. He concluded his career as a realtor at Holland Realtors until his retirement in 1977. John spent his retirement years in Altamonte Springs, Florida, but remained an Erie person, returning here for several months each summer. He was an avid golfer, playing four or five times a week (occasionally more) at Rolling Hills Country Club in Altamonte Springs well past his 90th birthday. He was especially proud of his service as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Magdalene parish in Altamonte Springs which continued until his return to Erie in 2001. Since his return, John has enjoyed life at the Regency at South Shore, St. Mary’s Home and Pleasant Ridge Manor. He is survived by six children, John Reiser of Canton, Ohio, MaryAnn Nucerino and her husband, Don, of Erie, Therese Zamboldi and her husband, Dick, of Erie, Mark Reiser and his wife, Nancy, of Carlsbad, California, Peter Reiser and his wife, Lorraine, of Pittsburgh and David Reiser and his wife, Colleen, of Erie. He was “Pugga” with great affection for and from his 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and Uncle John to many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 W. 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd. Friday, November 30th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and may attend service there Saturday 12:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrews Church on Saturday, December 1st at 1:00 p.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrews Church, 1167 West 7 th Street, Erie, PA 16502. Condolences at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com Sign the guestbook at www.GoErie.com/obits.

Dear Cousins and Families,

We are all sad at the passing of our dear Uncle and great Uncle John. We had so many wonderful years of get-togethers with him and Aunt Grayce both whether in Erie or sunny Florida. He was most definitely an inspiration to all of us and will be sorely missed.

With love, admiration and prayers for his eternal peace,

Jim Holland

Family Members,
John was an important part of our real estate business in the 60s and 70s. I believe he enjoyed the challenge that his clients and the business presented. Many memories have come forth since reading of his passing. My thoughts and prayers.
