Josephine Carbone Obituary
Josephine R. Carbone, formerly of Central Islip, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Peekskill, N.Y., on March 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Salati and Vellina Otice.
She loved her family and spent her life taking care of them. She rarely missed her sons' baseball and hockey games – mostly to embarrass them by her cowbell ringing or loud voice. She was an avid NY Mets fan and enjoyed going to car shows with her late husband "Big" Jim and their Mustang. She was also gifted with crocheting, crafting and doing jigsaw puzzles. She and Jim were members of St. John of God Church and actively involved in their CYO hockey program and the Central Islip Little League together.
Josephine retired from the Central Islip School District in 2012 after more than 30 years of service before moving to Erie, Pa.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, James Carbone, the love of her life for 32 years; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Carbone; her sister Anna Brookens and three brothers – baby Joseph, Julian and Dominic Otice.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Joseph Carbone (Flo), Christina Marsh (Robert) and James Carbone, Jr. (Shannon); nine grandchildren, Justin Carbone (Karisa), Maria Petro (Preston), Joseph Carbone, Jr, RJ Marsh, Noah Marsh, Luke Marsh, Michael Plowman, Cindy Carbone and James Joseph Carbone; three great-grandchildren, Benito and Nicoli Carbone, and Evelyn Petro; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Josephine's family would like to give a special thank you to the Great Lakes Hospice team, in particular Janet, for the care and kindness given to their mother.
Reposing at the Michael J. Grant Funeral Homes, Inc. 571 Suffolk Ave., Brentwood. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. John of God Church. Interment following at Queen of All Saints Cemetery. Family will receive friends to celebrate Josephine's life on Monday 2-4 & 7-9:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John of God Church, Carlton Avenue, Central Islip, N.Y. or to the organization of one's choice in her name.

I still miss her so. We developed a close friendship! She always gave me a gift on every holiday whether I was home or not, she would leave it on my door knob! Got to love her!!! I would still be there if she was still alive!!! She said as long as I live you not going anywhere (smile). Rest In Peace Always MRS. Josephine Carbone!

I learned to love you in such a short time. I will always miss you Mrs. Jo Carbone my friend! Rest In Peace with Jesus Christ! I don't think you should be gone so soon you were healthier than I. Thanks for everything the puzzles, cards, gifts at holidays always! Good bye may we meet again on the other side!
