I always enjoyed being with Dick, in person or talking on the radio. It was fun working with him a few times to help him to computerize his contest logs. He never missed a net or a PA QSO party when possible.

Dear Sue, I am so sorry to hear your Dad. I remember him as being kind of quiet, when I would come spend the night at your house. And tho' it's been about 30 yrs ago I can remember that room with the ham radio. My prayers are with you and your family.

Sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I'll always remember how he used to whistle all the time when our families camped together.

Dick became a good friend of mine since I first headed off to college at Indiana Tech, in Fort Wayne in 1964. He helped me keep in touch with my mother via 80 meter ham radio phone patches and later when I was in the Coast Guard on South Caicos and New Jersey. He was there almost everyday to say hello during that year of isolated duty on South Caicos.

I saw him last during a visit in August. He was aching, but sitting up, conversational and smiled from time to time. He and Maxine talked at length about moving on to a retirement community where Dick could have immediate care. That meant selling their house they built in the early 1950s. That was a tough conversation but they had the courage to face the realities of life. I admire them both.

I will miss his colorful stories, love of ham radio, emotional support and above all unconditional friendship.

My sincere condolences to Maxine, Tom and Susie.

73 Dick. You will be missed but also remembered with great fondness. :-)

Richard we didnt know each other but Im sorry to hrar of your passing. My name too is Richard Shreve.. Richard N. Shreve. Im almost 56 now and I lived in Waterford half of my life but Ive been back in Erie for some time now. I could tell every time you got a new mail man becuase I would get your mail often. I didnt mind though I would just take it to the postmaster and tell him I was Richard N and you were Richard V. At the V.A. hosp I would be sure to ask that they had the right Richard from time to time.. I kind of thought it was funny all these years with our names being the same. I often wondered if they got me confused with you and if you ever got a kick out of it. Well I just wanted to say I will miss that now and also Im a Navy vet and I wanted to be sure to thank you before saying good bye that with you being an Army vet I just have to say THANK YOU for serving our country. So many people have no idea what the price of freedom really is..Rest in peace..Richard N. Shreve....

So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I met him in 1968 at a meeting of the Radio Association of Erie when I was 14. He always had interesting stories of whatever ham radio project he was currently working on. Always a gentleman! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. 73 Dick! Steve WA3JJT
