James Cornell Obituary

James S. Cornell, 57, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Hamot Hospital, Erie, following a short illness related to heart complications. He was the husband of Julia E. 'Beth' Kwisnek Cornell, to whom he was married for 34 years. Born November 4, 1946, in Blairsville, he was the son of Sloan and Clara Libengood Cornell of Marienville. Mr. Cornell was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Orrtanna. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Blairsville and a former member of the Gettysburg Travel and Convention Bureau. He was a manager and train engineer for the Gettysburg Railroad for 25 years. At the time of his death he was the train engineer for Knox and Kane Railroad in Marienville, where he had been for eight years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cornell is survived by four daughters, Winifred J. Schulteis of Biglerville, Erann M. Bear of Gettysburg, Jamie E. Cornell of Orrtanna, and Laura B. Marshall of Biglerville; four grandchildren; and five sisters, Rebecca Overly of Robinson, Marilyn Hafer of Blairsville, Teri West of Russell, Patricia Kaas of Gardners, and Barbara Smith of Lewis Center, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Orrtanna, with Father Carl Steffan acting as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Orrtanna. The family will receive friends at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
