Paul K. Schildt

SPRING GROVE Paul K. Schildt, 82, died at 5:34 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Newcomer) Schildt. Together they shared over 62 years of marriage. A funeral service in celebration and thanksgiving for his life will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, 9002 Orchard Road, Spring Grove, with Elder D. Fred Miller, Elder Kenneth E. Nell, and Sam Rittenhouse officiating. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service. Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, PC, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Paul was born in Taneytown, Md., on June 19, 1928, and was the son of the late Edgar Schildt and Ada (Bowers) Schildt. He was a tractor trailer driver for Mummert Trucking for over 30 years. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren for over 50 years, having taught Sunday School for many years. He also volunteered for Transport for Christ for many years. He was a former chairman of the Transport For Christ York County Chapter, a member of the advisory council, and volunteered as a chaplain. He also volunteered as a driver for the Adams County Rescue Mission. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Kenneth and his wife, Charlene of Marietta, Paul and his wife, Barbara of East Berlin, Leon of York, and Dwane and his wife, Carol of Abbottstown; his daughters, Brenda Laughlin and her husband, David of Abbottstown, and Lois Tait and her husband, Hank of Mechanicsburg; his 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Lloyd Schildt; his sisters, Pauline Pifer and Esther Witter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel, Laverne, and Ralph Schildt.
