Bruce Porter Obituary
Born in Hornell, Nov. 11, 1938, the son of Kenneth and Verda Freeland Porter, he had resided in Hornell nearly all his life. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, class of 1956, and had been employed as Executive Vice President of Gibraltar Management in White Plains for many years before his retirement. Following retirement, he operated an Organic Dairy Farm on Crosby Creek Road. From an early age, Bruce played in several area bands, "Bruce Porter and the Belhops", and later "Scorpio."
He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Don Weinhauer.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy House Porter of Hornell; his children, David (Karen) Porter of Almond, Stephen Porter of Hornell, Gary (Lisa) Porter of Alfred Station, Bruce (Kelly) Porter Jr. of Nunda, Kevin Porter of Almond, Daniel Porter of Almond, Polly Porter-Ellis of Fulton, and James Porter of Almond; one sister, Kathleen Weinhauer of Scio; 2 brothers, George (Pat) Porter of Hornell, and David (Janice) Porter of Stannards; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as three step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Donald Maynard officiating.

My condolences to the family. Always look forward to providing milk testing services at the farm. We shared comments on a variety of topics. I'll miss you Bruce.

Back in the early to mid sixties I fitted up Bruce and his band to tux's to wear at the Number 1 Club. My wife and I went there every weekend to listen to the band play and dance. He will be missed. We loved to listen to him and the band.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Followed Bruce and the band for years. Will never forget when the band played in the Battle of the Bands at Lake Demon. He will be dearly missed.
