Esme L. Lawrence, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Woodlands Senior Park.

She was born on June 14, 1921, in Northwest, Camberwell, England.

Esme was adopted by Frederick Kerr and Georgina Henry.

On Nov. 21, 1944, she married Bruce Lawrence in Woolwich, London, England. They met in London during World War II. Esme was one of the first war brides to be transported to the U.S. on the S.S. Argentina on Feb. 4, 1946.

Esme served in the English Womens Royal Air Force.

She was a member of the Trans-Atlantic Brides Association and the English Club of Fond du Lac.

She was a loving wife and wonderful mother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Esme was a great cook, loved to party, and enjoyed dancing. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by four children, Maureen (Michael) Simon of Whitewater, Ronde (John) Zoelle of Fond du Lac, David Lawrence of Fond du Lac, and Michael (Michelle) Lawrence of Omro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 19, 2007; one grandson, Steven Michael Simon; one great-grandson, Peter Anthony Miller; two step-sisters, Betty and Kathy.

VISITATION: Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, from 11 a.m. to noon, at Uecker-Witt Funeral, 524 N. Park Ave., Fond du Lac.

FUNERAL: Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, at noon, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, with the Reverend Richard Balken officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Private family interment will take place at Rienzi Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Woodlands Senior Park, Hospice Hope, her physicians Dr. Lisa Weber and Dr. Derek Colmenares, ER physician Dr. Nate Larsen, and all her wonderful friends. Special thanks to Margaret and Dick Young for your wonderful support and kindness.
