Francis Schroeder Obituary

Francis J. "Babe" Schroeder, 79, of Fond du Lac, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Hospice Home of Hope.

He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Oshkosh, the son of Francis J. and Ann Hansetter Schroeder, Sr.

Francis graduated from Oshkosh High School; and later received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

On May 5, 1956, he married Nancy "Nan" Oelschlager at St. Vincent's Church in Oshkosh.

Babe was a National Production Manager for A.C. Nielsen for 31 years.

He grew up in Oshkosh and moved to Fond du Lac in 1957, went to Green Bay for three months, and then to Mason City, Iowa for 11 years. He later moved to Lincoln, Neb. in 1977 and remained until 1982, when he and his family moved to Libertyville, Ill. for five years. In 1987, they returned to Fond du Lac, where he retired.

Babe was a member of Holy Family Parish; a former member of the Kiwanis Clubs in Iowa and Nebraska; and was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, where he was a former committee chairman for 10 years. While living in Winnebago Park, he was a past association president and board member for 15 years. He was a volunteer umpire for Little League for several years.

He enjoyed golf, bicycling, and watching the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are his wife, Nan; two sons, Steven (Helen) Schroeder of Rapid City, S.D., and Scott (Ann) Schroeder of Lincoln, Neb.; four daughters, Pamela (Mark) Jarrett of Lake Bluff, Ill., Lori Johnson of Mason City, Iowa, Kim (Will) Abbott of Fond du Lac, and Jennifer Schroeder of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Eugene Jungwirth of Oshkosh.

His parents; a brother, Gregory; and a sister, Patricia Jungwirth, preceded him in death.

VISITATION: Visitation for Francis J. "Babe" Schroeder will be on Wed- nesday, April 18, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave., Fond du Lac.

SERVICES: Liturgy of The Word for Christian Burial services will be at 4:30 p.m., at the funeral home on Wednesday. Cremation has taken place.

Committal of cremated remains will be in the Calvary Garden Niche in Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to either the Fond du Lac Red Cross; or The Salvation Army.

Nan and family - we are so saddened to hear of your loss. Babe was a class act all the way - right down to his dilly beans! We will miss him but have fond memories of twilight league at South Hills and many get-togethers. Our prayers are with you.

Many fond memories of "Babe" as I grew up in Mason City and hung out at your "haunted" house. Always cheerful and smiling, he will be truly missed. He touched many lives and lives on through his family. He will be missed.
