Carol Cohen Obituary

Carol Jean Cohen
Formerly of Leominster, MA

The family of Carol Jean Cohen is sad to announce her sudden death on the night of November 9, 2016. Known affectionately to her family as Muffie she was born on March 20, 1946, the youngest of four daughters, to Marie and Jacob Cohen of Leominster, Massachusetts. She died peacefully in her sleep.

During her school years she attended Julie Country Day School followed by Saint Bernard's High School. She graduated from Anna Maria College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. After graduation she was employed by Weyerhauser Paper Company for their burgeoning computer technology department. Recognized for her talents she continued, throughout her career, to work in the technology field with firms under contract to the Army Corps of Engineers. In that capacity she worked in Italy, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Canada. After her retirement she devoted herself to the welfare of her family and friends.

Muffie was the heart of our family. We miss her. We miss her enveloping bear hugs. We miss her humor and easy laughter. We miss her compassion. She was the chicken soup for our souls. Magnanimous and quirky she always kept ice cream in the freezer and a bottle of wine in the cupboard, the better to cure our blues or celebrate our joys. Her generous spirit, fierce loyalty and unconditional love enriched our lives. We will carry her memory in our hearts, and miss her, forever.

Carol was predeceased by her eldest sister, Anne Jane Morse of Uncasville, CT. Those who will miss her most are her remaining sisters, Mary Wasserman of San Francisco, CA, and Valerie Roy (Donald) of Wakefield, RI; her many nieces, nephews and cousins, her best friend, Walter Derrenbacher, innumerable friends, and her constant, four-legged companion, little Malenki.

COHEN -- A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 357 Main Street, in Leominster, Massachusetts on December 10, 2016 at 11 AM. Immediately following the service a celebration of Carol's life will be

Carol was a rara avis who was a central figure in my and my mother's life once we 'discovered' Carol at Don's. We could not get enough of her excellent companionship, and we invited her to all of our many outings in and around Leominster. She made every gathering more fun and meaningful--elevating the conversation with her intellect and mirth. I am so sorry--and cannot believe--that she is gone.

It was a great discovery one day to meet
Carol at Don's diner. We both had something
in common. Both us had a knee replacement and it started a conversion that never ended.
We would show off how we could dance a few steps, and both of us would laugh.
She had a personality that just drew you to her. I'll miss seeing her, but she will be
always be in my memory.
