William Proctor Obituary
He was born in Lunenburg on June 15, 1929, a son of the late Robert I. Sr. and Mona (Corliss) Proctor, and lived there all of his life. He graduated from Lunenburg High School in 1947. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Proctor founded William R. Proctor Inc. in Lunenburg in 1956. He owned and operated the business up until 1990 when he turned it over to his sons. He officially retired in 1992, but still enjoyed helping out with the day-to-day operations. He was a founding member of the Lunenburg Sportsman’s Club and a life member of the N.R.A. He was also a member of the Otter River Sportsman’s Club, the Eastwood Club in Fitchburg, the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. He served on the Lunenburg re-evaluation committee, Lunenburg Historical Society, and the 250th and 275th Anniversary Committees in Lunenburg. He was also a member of the Aurora Lodge of Masons in Fitchburg. Several years ago he was very active in Lunenburg Little League and Lunenburg Pop Warner Football.
He leaves a son, Daniel C. Proctor and a daughter Dawn E. Johnson both of Lunenburg; a brother, John G. Proctor of Fitchburg; three sisters, Marion Walsh, Mona Poirier and Donna Cameron all of Lunenburg; 11 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. His wife of 50 years, Beatrice M. “Bea” (Allain) Proctor died in 2005. He is also predeceased by two sons, Thomas I. Proctor, who died in 1961, and William R. Proctor Jr., who died in 2001, a daughter, Judith A. Glow in 1996, a grandson, William R. Proctor III in 1992; a bother Robert I. Proctor Jr. in 2000 and three sisters, Auracy Murray in 2006, Corliss Day in 2001 and Fern Riley in 1991.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of All Saints, 1469 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be in the South Cemetery. Calling hours will be held in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth St., Concord, N.H. 03301. www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net.
