On Tuesday, August 9, 2011, Darlene J. (Wolfe) Funk, 77, of Merritt Island, lovingly known as "Nanny" passed away peacefully with loved-ones at her side. Darlene was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1933, daughter of David and Margaret Wolfe.
She was employed by the Holiday Inn and Hilton on Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach for over 35 years. Her hobbies included fishing, cooking, her pets, and thrift-shopping. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Throughout her illness, Darlene maintained a very brave, stoic attitude on the inevitability of death; always taking comfort in the knowledge that pain and suffering were non-existent in heaven.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Ada) Winters, Alabama, Stephen Winters, Florida; daughter, Sherry (Larry) Vanderlinden, Alaska; sister, Twila Patterson, Maryland; nephews, Steve Patterson, Florida and Dana Patterson, Maryland; grandchildren, Lisa (Carlos) Huerta, Alabama, Lynn (Randy) Little, Florida, William (Farida) Winters, Florida, Lucas Winters, Alabama, Lauren Winters, California, April Vanderlinden, Alaska, Kenny (Corinne) Winters, Florida, Logan Winters, Alabama, Lee Winters, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Anthony, Carlos, and Lily Winters all of Alabama, Gavin Little of Florida and Danacia Winters of Florida. She is also survived by close-family friend, Jessica Figueroa, and her longest and dearest friend in the world, June Paule.
She was preceded in death by her son, William "Billy" Winters, of Merritt Island, FL.
A memorial service will be held at the Health Center of Merritt Island, 500 Crockett Blvd., Friday, August 19th at 2:00 p.m.

Oh Darlene, how I loved working with you and becoming your friend. There wasn't one person in our workplace be it fellow co-worker, boss, or customer who didn't love you dearly. I've been in North Dakota visiting my brother and I just heard the news upon my return. I haven't worked at the beach for over 4 years now, but my memories of your kindness, thoughtfulness and friendship will stay with me throughout my lifetime. You were such a treasure. Ry.

Oh Nanny, Why did you have to leave me? Not only were you my Nanny but a best friend. I'll love you forever and don't you forget those promises you made me. I know you're at peace now.....but I miss you so much. Give Uncle Don a kiss for me. I love you and so does Randy and of course Gavin.
