Elena Fischer

Elena C. Fischer - Cocoa Beach - Elena C. Fischer, 84, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009. Elena had been a resident of Cocoa Beach since 1973. Born December 25, 1924 in Tampa, FL, Elena was the oldest of three children. The family moved to New York City for a while and then back to Florida to live in Miami. In Miami, Elena met her husband Jack Crosland who owned Crosland Fisheries. When Jack died in the early 60's, Elena ran the business which had since moved to Marathon, FL in the 1950's. While running Crosland Fisheries, Elena met Lou Fischer, of Fischer's Sea foods of Port Canaveral. Elena eventually sold Crosland Fisheries and moved to Cocoa Beach to be with Lou. Elena and Lou Fischer were active members of the Cocoa Beach community. They were one of the first major contributors of the start of the Cape Canaveral Hospital Foundation. Elena served on the Scholarship Board of the Foundation. After Lou's death in 1990, Elena's sister Nellie Rice came to live with Elena in 1995. Nellie was a companion to Elena until her passing. Elena was predeceased by her husbands, Jack and Lou and nephew, Rodney Rice. She is survived by her sister, Nellie Rice of Cocoa Beach; her brother, Henry Rodriguez of Hialeah; her nephew, Jim Rice of Fayetteville, GA; her stepchildren, Ron Fischer of Merritt Island, Rusty Fischer of Cocoa Beach, Bus Fischer of Longboat Key and Dorsay Fischer of Sarasota and their families which include several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elena was well loved by her friends and the family would like to thank all who cared for her before her passing. No services are planned.
