Jeanne Marie Sisson Pickett was born on December 28, 1927 to Harold Spence and Marion Lucy (Martin) Sisson in Penn Yan, N.Y. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1945, and worked in Lown's Department Store for many years. Jeanne loved her job, and was always ready to help any who came into her department in the basement of Lown's, whether they were looking for lovely dolls and toys, or linens and kitchen gadgets.
Jeanne's family history was very important to her, and she spent many years tracing her genealogy. These studies allowed her to be admitted to the Daughters of the American Revolution, a fact which gave her much joy.
George Henry Pickett was born on March 25, 1930 to Clayton Samuel and Beatrice Ellen (Wilkins) Pickett. He was a 1948 graduate of Penn Yan Academy. After graduating, George enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country from 1950 to 1953. George was employed by the Central Trust Bank in Prattsburgh, and then worked for many years in the men's department in McCurdy's in Geneva before his retirement. George was very proud of his position as past-commander of the American Legion Johnson-Costello Post 355. George was also a man of deep faith, and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church as well as a Mason.
On April 26, 1969 George and Jeanne married the loves of their lives at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Penn Yan. During their 42 years of marriage, they were never far apart. After their retirements, George and Jeanne loved to travel, and did so extensively throughout the United States. Their happy marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Marion Sisson. George was predeceased by his "bride" Jeanne M. Pickett, his parents, Clayton and Beatrice Pickett, his brothers, Harris C. and Donald Pickett, and his sister-in-law, Mina Jean Pickett. George and Jeanne will be missed by all of their loving friends that they leave behind.
Arrangements have been made by the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel.
