CAROLYN JOAN SMITH, 75, of Ossian, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1934, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of Helen and Clifford Weber. During high school, she worked as a hat check at the Van Orman Hotel. After graduation from Central Catholic High School in 1952, she briefly worked in the City Clerk's office on Berry St., at U.S. Rubber, and then Fort Wayne Truck Parts from which she retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Yoder. She loved tending her flowers and was a fabulous cook. A true adventurer, she traveled all over the world, including Mexico, Canada, Greece, Germany, Austria, Morocco, New Zealand, Australia, and Peru. She loved her annual family camping trips. She was a member of the Red Hats, Rosary Makers, National Council of Catholic Women, Harvest House, and Rosary Sodality. For the past 11 years, she volunteered as a Hospitality Host at Fort Wayne International Airport. Most Monday nights, she could be found playing cards with friends at the Brew Ha, Ossian. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Smith (life partner, Katie Dickinson) and Cynthia Smith (son-in-law, James Brown), both of Fort Wayne; brother, Clifford Joseph Weber, Jr. of Long Beach, Calif.; sister, Evangeline A. (brother-in-law, Gene) Kile of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister-in-law, Gloria M. de Weber of Chino Hills, Calif.; niece, Elena Weber of Chino, Calif.; grandchildren, Phillip (Jeri) Brown and Renee Brown (Brian Passwater), both of Fort Wayne; and great-grandchild ren, Ashley Brown, Andrea Junk and Randy Junk, all of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al, in 1998. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 14623 Bluffton Road, Yoder, with prayers at 10:30 a.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road. Viewing is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at the funeral home, with a vigil service at 3:30 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
