Douglas Glidden Obituary

WOLFEBORO ; Douglas H. Glidden, 54, passed away on Feb. 3, 2009 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a lifelong resident of Wolfeboro, who built and opened his own auto repair shop, Bay Auto, behind his house and had amassed a very large number of loyal customers over the last 29 years.

Through the years, Doug had spent countless hours with family and friends helping raise tens of thousand of dollars for the American Cancer Society. He loved his Harley Davidson Fatboy and his 1969 Chevelle.

Doug was a good 'ole country boy who enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, NASCAR, country music and always having "just one more" beer with the guys.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Tracy Hayes of Wolfeboro; four children, Jamie Ladd of Tuftonboro, Kari Glidden, Sherin Glidden and DJ of Tamworth; sisters, Dolores Swinerton and husband, Sonny, of Wolfeboro, Deanna Penfield of Rochester, Ann Davis and husband, Larry, of Tuftonboro; and brother, Eric Finniss and wife, Linda, of Florida.

He was predeceased by his father, Harlan Glidden; mother, Velma Finniss, and brothers, Malcom Virgue and Mike Virgue.

In order to help and make a difference in the lives of other cancer patients, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Seacoast Cancer Center, 789 Central Ave., Dover, NH, 03820.

Doug loved his family and friends and will be sorely missed by all.

Visiting hours will be held at Lords Funeral Home in Wolfeboro on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funderal service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doug, I do not know where to begin but first and foremost, my thoughts go out to your family and your sister, Ann, as you spoke of her so often to me. My prayers are with all and wish i could have met Ann. It surely sounds like you and she were so very close and was there for each other. I know that when we first met at the Restaurant in your town, it was so nice. Memories we shared from 2008. It was sometimes hard for me to get here but i made it and glad you came back with me when you did. Our laughs and talks meant alot to me. Sometimes people do not allow one to say much, they do all the talking. You were funny, caring, and a pest when you wanted to be. Now i see where you said, i love to get my sister Ann going. ha. I think of many times of us just sitting and holding hands, we were definately soul mates as you said. I thought about that and it was so kind of you. May you rest in peace and the silence of no more pain will take you to the best place and God be with you. Missing you and love will never die. You are in my heart and when i come to your beautiful town, i will visit you and talk to you as you always wanted me to. Never good bye, someday we will meet. I am sad for how unhappy you were, but i am glad that i could fulfill those empty times and you would call me. Loving you!

Doug, Over the last 25+ years we had our ups and downs, but our love and friendship never left us.If anything it grew. You will always be my best friend and I'll always love you. I'm going to miss our weekly phone conversations and meeting you at Buckeys for a beer. When you left you took a part of me with you and I will miss you until we meet again. My Dearest Doug,

How many times do I wake up at night to snuggle with you...only to realize that the bed is cold?

How many times do I look out the window to see what car you're working on...only to find you're not there?

How many times do I look at our chickens...only to realize you won't ever feed them again?

How many times do I think about raising the pigs...only to know I have to do it by myself?

How many times do I look at my phone...thinking it's ringing your special ring...only to find it's not true?

How many times do I sit down to study...only to realize that finishing my education...was the very last thing you ever asked of me?

How many times do I look at our dog who just lays there all day...only to know how much she misses her Papa?

How many times do I wander around this house wondering if I could have possibly tried harder than I did to help you get better...only to know that it's too late?

How many times do I wish for "one more day" with you...only to know I'd wish for just one more?

How many times do I cry myself to sleep because I miss you so much and I only want to be with you?

How many times do I wish that everyone knew how much we truly loved each other?

How many times do I wish I could tell you "I love you" just one more time?

How many times?... So many I can't even count...

Just like you told me a few days before you died, "I don't think it's possible...I don't think it's possible...To love you anymore than I do..."

I miss you so very much...

I love you so very much...

I swear I will keep every promise I ever made to you...no matter what...

I will honor every wish you ever made to me...no matter what...

I will build the log cabin you always wanted...no matter what...

You are my best friend, my lover, and my life.

I will remember you always...

I will love you until the day I die...

I can't wait to be with you forever...

Love,

me

I started hanging with Doug in grade school, back when girls still had cooties. It wasn’t long before we got past that concept. I can’t begin to tell of all the things Doug has taught me through the years; as a youngster - girls, cars, and camping come immediately to mind. And as we matured - he taught me loyalty to family and friends. Physical distance over the last 30 years has limited contact. But every few years we easily met and picked up where we had left off. While the telephone easily enabled us to coordinate our youthful adventures, it also bridged our distance in later years. I don’t know how he knew, but his timing was perfect when he once called me in England as I was minutes away from leaving my family to go to Desert Storm. I called him recently; I think we both understood why, even though we avoided the subject, seeking comfort in talk about the good old days. I guess that’s what friends do.

I have lost a good hunting, fishing friend. We were more like brothers then we were just friends. We grew up in the same neighborhood we spend most of our time down by the bay or up in the woods by his mother's. You will be missed Doug by not only me but many others, I hope you are there with your rest of the loved ones.

Doug, you will forever be remembered by your friends and family. Knowing you as i have in the years of living in Wolfeboro, you were so close and loved your sister, Ann Davis as she loved you- who became my dear friend. You loved the outdoors and loved to call Ann and just hassle her sometimes and it was all in good fun. Your presence will always be with her and friends. I know i will think of you for your kindness and caring ways. God be with you, never forgot, always remembered.
