David Sappington Obituary

Mr. David Sappington, 91, of Frederick, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 at his residence.

Born on November 26, 1915 in Frederick, the son of the late David Sappington and Marguerite (Hill) Sappington Freeland and the husband of the late Hester A. "Coots" Sappington of 67 years.

Besides his beloved children, Mary D. Naylor and husband Charles, of Newport News, Va., son, David "Bruddie" Sappington Jr. and wife Natalie, and sister Constance Hill, all of Frederick, survivors include 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be remembered by his devoted "Circle of Friends."

Mr. Sappington was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop McNamara Council 1622. He was a member of Mountain City Elks Lodge #382 for 69 years, where he served as recording secretary for 32 years, the Golden Link and a past member of the Blue Ridge Rainbow Council #84. He retired from the Maryland School for the Deaf after 20 years of service. He loved to fish and his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Leah Frances Sappington Myers, Agnes Marie Freeland, Maxine Helen Bowins, and brother Charles Sappington and his wife, Catherine.

The family will welcome visitors from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22 at Gary Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, 116 E. Second St., Frederick.
