John Repass Obituary

John Henry Repass, Sr. passed away July 9, 2018 surrounded by his family and his wife of 60 years Carolyn Watts Repass.

Born July 19,1937 in Burkes Garden, VA to John Robert Repass & Mary Virginia Atwell Repass, John was one of eleven children. The family moved to the Poolesville, MD area in the early 50's where John met the love of his life, Carolyn while attending Poolesville High School. John excelled as a student and athletically in both Track & Field, Baseball and Basketball. John continued his passion for sports as he continued playing baseball in the old MD State League then turning to softball, playing into his 50's for Upper Montgomery FD. John was a lifelong Redskins fan attending their 1st Super Bowl victory in 1983 at the Rose Bowl. An avid sportsman, John loved hunting, fishing and playing golf with his family. Golf became his favorite sport and he still played regularly with his friends, "The Walkers" at Holly Hills CC right up to age 79.

In a life dedicated to community service, John became a volunteer member of Upper Montgomery Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1959. In October, 1966, John became the first "career" firefighter hired by the station, taking the rank of Sergeant. Rising through the ranks over his 29-year career, John retired as Station Commander in June of 1994. John stayed on duty as a volunteer at UMCVFD on evenings and weekends throughout his career until rules prohibited "career personnel" from serving at the same station they worked. Both John & Carolyn are Life Members of Upper Montgomery VFD. Upon retirement from the fire service, John continued to serve his community through a variety of organizations. A member of Monocacy Lions Club, John also served as a director of Monocacy Cemetery and gave of his time to WUMCO Help and Hands of Love, always trying to help those less fortunate.

John is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons John H. Repass, Jr. (Matt) his wife Sharon of Berlin, MD and Ronald Shepherd Repass, his wife Elizabeth of Poolesville, MD, his daughter Tina Lynn Repass Barnsley, her husband Tommy of Laytonville, MD and his beloved grandchildren; Megan & Michele Repass, Zachary Petersen & Madison Repass and Emily Sivert, Christine Scully, Laura Barnsley and Victoria Barnsley, as well his great-grandchildren; Daniel, Mackenzie & Sawyer Sivert. Surviving siblings; William R. Repass wife Shirley, Joseph Edward Repass wife Donna, Betty Repass Allnutt, Barbara Repass Manaia, Sylvia Repass Miller husband George and Gail Repass Pearson along with numerous nieces and nephews.
