Courtney Price Obituary

Courtney E. Price, 45, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2018. Courtney was born with a rare genetic disorder and was not expected to live past the age of six. However, she beat the odds and has had a fun and beautiful life. Courtney was one of the first children to enter the newly formed special education program in Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas. She graduated from James Monroe High School and then entered a day support program with the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board. Courtney loved all the attention and activities they had to offer. Despite the fact she was unable to walk, talk, and had to be fed, she had a SMILE that would light up a room and fill your heart with joy. Therefore Courtney was called the unofficial "Mayor" because she would greet everyone with a hug and smile. After attending the center for 20 years, her mom decided it was time for her to "retire" and be home during the day where family and friends could see her more often and enjoy her. So for the past few years, Courtney has loved living on Winchester Street in "Courtney's Cottage" where she could look out the storm door and see walkers with their pets. She loved football! Courtney didn't care who was playing. She just loved when everyone was clapping and yelling and the players were throwing the ball. When you saw Courtney, she always had big, beautiful bows with her pigtails. Her large family, brother Chris, and cousins Wendy, Max, Brittany, Portland, Joey, Jen, Tim, Neil, Shaun, Megan, Evan, Kathryn, Ron, Cole, Jordan, Big Chris, Kim, Michael, and Matthew made sure she had the latest electronics for her cartoons and was always outfitted in her favorite "preppy clothes." God blessed Courtney with many "angels" to help her with her needs during her lifetime: Alice "Nannie" Patterson, Paulene Campbell for 20 years, Janis Rozell, Karen Robertson, Sandy Robertson, and Margaret Hyman. Survivors include her parents, Ellen Sullivan Jarrell of Fredericksburg and Ernest R. Price (Stephanie) of Tennessee; her brother and best friend, Chris Price of Fredericksburg; her aunts, Gay Sullivan, Janet Sullivan, both of Fredericksburg, and Aunt and Uncle Nancy and Don Bowman of Blacksburg. Courtney was preceded in death by her loving stepfather, James E. "Jimmy" Jarrell; Aunt Lillie Sullivan; and Uncles Crit Sullivan, Gerald "Ducky" Sullivan, and Warren Sullivan. Courtney was blessed to have such a large and loving family who loved her so much. A private funeral service will be held for Courtney. A very special thank you to the staff of Capital Caring Hospice, especially "John." They were so caring and loving to Courtney and the entire family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Diaper Bag, Fredericksburg Area Service League Inc., ATTN: Amy Olney, Box 7935, Fredericksburg, VA 22404 or The Children's Museum of Richmond, 2626 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220. Online guestbook at covenantfuneralservice.com.
