It saddens me to learn of your passing. I do believe you are in a better place. I loved you, from the moment I met you, your loving compassionate way. Caroline, my autistic granddaughter, loved you and was drawn to you and you to her. Your love and concern for Marko Manning touched my heart also. We will miss you today, tomorrow and all the days to come. Peace to your family. Chariss

Dear Eleanor, Alessandra, Daniela, Michael and Ron....there are no words to express my feelings for you at this time. My heart goes out to all of you. I prayed and prayed as many did. Please believe that she is alive and free in heaven where illness is forbidden and we return to our complete selves again wihout pain. Please believe that she sees all that is going on in all of your lives and will try to give you signs at times. Peace be with all of you.
Elyse, you have a beautiful family. I have been frozen since I learned of your situation. We met back in Brooklyn at Brooklyn College and were friends until after you graduated C.W. Post and then I dont know what happened. I know that despite the circumstances, that you are alive and free of this in heaven and that you will be with your mother and children always watching and guiding them. I will see you again I know. The amount of lives that you have touched is amazing. You are so loved and so beautiful.
Love,
Barbara Eileen Berenbaum of Brooklyn, NY ....living in Long Island at the moment

Elyse--my first memory of you was at a women's luncheon in Rome. ( The really dreadful-hotel-conference-room-kind.) I looked around the room for a place to sit and in a sea of pretension I heard a somewhat raucous, very honest, laugh. It was coming from you. I made the best beeline of my life and grabbed the chair next to you. In an instant it was clear---you were the real deal. The honesty I heard in your laugh defined who you were---pure, confident, and filled with joy. I asked if you spoke Italian and you answered "abbastanza bene" which means, just good enough. Again, I was struck by your honesty and became forever smitten. My dear, beautiful, exceedingly real Elyse: you may have spoken Italian just good enough, but as a friend---and especially as a mother---you were exceptional. Ti voglio bene. Kim

Elyse...you were my best friend from the day I met you in Italy 27 years ago. I never imagined I would have to learn to live without you. I am not enjoying it. Roman was so proud to be your Godson. You were my family's greatest cheerleader. Our hearts are broken. Thank you for the incredible honor of being Daniela's Godmother. I promised you then and I promise her now that I will always be there for her. I love you Elyse and can't wait to see you again:)

There are no words to ease the pain caused by a loved one's passing. Words are simply words. Please though, for those Elyse loved and left behind, take some comfort in her legacy. The wonderful family she created, the values she instilled and her continued demonstration of love for all of those she cared about.
Elyse...you were taken much too soon.

I met Elyse through her lifetime friend Fredricka Shakespeare Manning, and always thought of her as one of the most gracious people I have ever known.
