Dan Powell Obituary
November 30, 1948 - April 27, 2025 Daniel Albert Powell was born November 30, 2025 in Sherman, TX and passed from terminal brain cancer April 27, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. His beloved wife passed in February 17, 2025 and they now rest together in peace.
Dan was a kind, loving, stern but fair, detail-oriented man who saw potential in others and wanted them to see it in themselves. He hoped everyone he encountered would come to know the joy and love of Christ.
He met the love of his life - his beloved wife Kathy - through a mutual friend. They fell in love quickly and married on December 21, 1968. Together, they began a life rooted in love, faith, and hard work.
Dan's career began with something he had a natural talent for - drawing house plans. He worked for a local contractor, using his skills to bring others' visions to life. Later, he joined his father-in-law in starting a franchise car dealership. There, Dan wore many hats: sales manager, tow truck driver and building contractor, helping the business grow from the ground up.
He truly loved selling cars and, more importantly, helping people. He built a large base of loyal customers through honesty, kindness, and exceptional service. His dedication even earned him national recognition in salesmanship - not because he chased awards, but because he genuinely cared for the people he served.
However, the demands of the retail business often meant long hours and time away from his wife and two children and from his true passion: building.
He returned to that passion, founding the Powell Construction Company. Over the years, he designed, engineered, drafted, and built more than 45 homes. These homes still stand today as a testament to his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality.
Dan also loved to fly. Aircraft had fascinated him since childhood, and he wasted no time earning his pilot's license, including an instrument rating and multi-engine certifications. He went on to achieve a jet rating and even volunteered for over a decade with medical emergency transport teams, helping carry life-saving organ donations to those in need.
One of the most meaningful transformations in Dan's life came through his faith. In 1981, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave up all habits that he felt stood in the way of honoring God. From that point on, he strove to live a life that reflected the love and joy of Christ.
He and his beloved Kathy were quiet, consistent philanthropists. They helped others in secret - never wanting recognition, only wishing to bless others as they had been blessed. They supported home purchases, paid for college tuition, helped missionaries, bought vehicles for those in need, and gave financial gifts to people who were struggling - always quietly, always selflessly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger, his beloved wife, and his daughter Katherine. He is survived by his son Lance C. Powell, granddaughter Hayley Katherine Hawkes and grandson-in-law Philip Hawkes, granddaughter Kai Powell, and grandson Lance Powell "Duece".
