Gunnar Svala Obituary
A former North Electric Vice President, Gunnar Svala passed away on Tuesday evening, September 10, 2013 in Parkvue Healthcare Center in Sandusky, Ohio after a brief illness.
Gunnar and his wife, Brita, lived in Lakeville, CT from 1988 to June of this year, when they moved to another retirement facility in Sandusky to be nearer to family.
After graduating from the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology in 1942, Gunnar started his career in Stockholm, working for the Ericsson
Telephone Company. In 1959, the Ericsson Co. offered him the position of Technical Director for the Galion-based North Electric Company. He continued to work for the Ericsson Co. in Delaware, Ohio until that facility was sold, and then he continued with the Ericsson Co. in New York City until 1980. Gunnar and Brita then retired to Lakeville in 1988.
Gunnar is survived by his wife of 68 years, Brita, whom he married on July 8, 1945 in north central Sweden; two children, Trudy Svala Berkowitz, of New York City and Ingemar (Paula) Svala, of Vermilion, Ohio; and grandchildren, Michael, Laura, Adam, and Kathleen.
A memorial service for the family will take place at Parkvue Healthcare Center's Chapel at 1 P.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
