David James Martin, 40, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 19, 2017 at his home.
A fifth generation Oregonian, David's ancestors included Oregon Trail wagon train pioneers in 1845. Nahum King (husband of Sarepta Norton King) was the patriarch of the 26 member King family who settled Kings Valley in 1846.
David was born on July 16, 1976 in Albany to Dennis and Kathleen Martin. He joined older brother, Michael to complete the family.
David attended Oak Elementary, Calapooia Middle School and South Albany High School, graduating in 1994.
He grew up enjoying and participating in all sports, especially basketball, BMX bicycling, cross country, golf, skateboarding and snowboarding.
Graphic art and cooking were passionate hobbies of his.
His son, Jeffery David Anderson, was born in 1993.
After high school, David worked at Elmer's Restaurant in Albnay.
He started his construction career working for TGerding Construction Company of Corvallis.
David moved to Florida in 1999, continuing to work in the construction field. He excelled in all aspects of home and commercial remodeling. He later became self-employed.
In 2002, David earned an Associates of Arts degree from Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida.
He married Tammy Sue Fischer in Cocoa Beach, Florida on October 14, 2006. They divorced in 2011, remaining good friends. He was her soul mate.
David is survived by his parents; brother; son; sister-in-law Shaleen; niece Mercedes; nephews Caleb, Zander and Jaxon; former wife Tammy; girlfriend Ashley Miller and their unborn daughter Leah Marie Martin; Godparents Uncle Ken and Aunt Robbi Gerding and many other relatives.
Two memorials were held in Florida.
David's Oregon celebration of life will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Bryant Park in Albany. Please come when you can. A potluck meal will be at 2 p.m. (no alcohol). We will be sharing pictures, videos and memories of David's life all afternoon.
