Harry Herman Obituary

Harry L. Herman November 23, 1921 - August 31, 2009 Harry LeRoy Herman, age 87, formerly of Palisade, CO passed away on August 31st, 2009 at his home after a massive stroke. Harry was born in Shelley, Idaho on November 23, 1921 to Orin and Betty Herman. He attended high school in Palisade, CO and was active in many sports. After graduation in 1940, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a torpedo man 1st Class on the USS Croatan in WWII. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Colorado and joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and became a journeyman carpenter. On December 14, 1947 Harry was united in marriage to the love of his life Jennie Carmella Herman. They have resided together in Palisade, Colorado for the past 64 years where Harry and Jennie raised a family and actively participated in the community. Harry's favorite activity was spending time fishing, usually at Vega Reservoir, Rifle Gap Reservoir or on Grand Mesa with his lifelong friends Albert Merlino and Dutch Hampton or family. He also enjoyed hunting with his numerous grandchildren. He served on the Palisade volunteer fire department for 33 years and was also an active member of Lincoln Post 50 of the American Legion in Palisade. He is survived by his brothers, Bill and Ed; his wife, Jennie; their children, Jennie and Clint Lampshire, Mary and Curtis Akin, Harry and Deanna Herman and Brian Herman and K. Ellen Baxter; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred, Orin, Roy and Lester and his sister, Edna Mae. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4 at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time. Harry was such a fun loving neat person. I have so many memeories from when he and my Dad worked for Tom & Lois McCall.
