Florence was born on Nov. 24, 1923, in Isabell, S.D., the daughter of Gustav and Lydia (Graff) Ochsner. Her mother passed away in May 1924; she was then raised by Ludwig and Laya Pfeifer.

Florence married Edwin Fischer on Feb. 14, 1943. Edwin passed away Jan. 21, 2007.

Florence was a teacher for more than 38 years. She started teaching at the age of 19 in a one-room country school house in North Dakota. Even after retirement-, she continued to tutor children in their homes. She received her Bachelors Degree from Westmar College in LeMars.

She was known by most people for having a great sense of humor and giving everyone a "hard time." She enjoyed bingo, doing crafts and sewing. Being with people and spending time in the winter in Las Vegas with her husband were also special to her.

Surviving are her daughter, Vivian (John) Pitlo of Bellevue; a sister, Elaine (Maynard) Schmidt of Sturgis, S.D.; and brother Devine Ochsner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister.

A Florence M. Fischer Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Rosie Burt for her friendship and also the residents and staff at Sunrise Villa, especially Gina, Bonnie, Betty and Lydia. A special thank-you to the deacons and Dr. Marsha Wilfong of First Presbyterian Church for their care and concern.
