MASON CITY | Harold D. Saathoff, 78, of Mason City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with Pastor Jeni Bohls, St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3- 5 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Harold Saathoff Memorial Fund. Harold was born April 28, 1935 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Garrelt and Selma (Lang) Saathoff. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1954. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Harold married Carole J. Waller December 31, 1961 in Mason City. Harold worked for the city of Mason City for 29 years. He retired in 1998. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and a few of his other interests included fishing, NASCAR, and tinkering.
Harold is survived by his children, Randy (Sue) Saathoff of Mason City, Scott Saathoff of Denver, Colorado, Jeff Saathoff of Mason City, and Carrie (Brooks) Sartorius of New Hope, Minnesota; grandchildren, Katie Saathoff, Nick and Zach Sartorius; sister, Arlene Saathoff of Austin, Minnesota; special friend, Marge.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carole; two brothers, Larry and Jerry.
