Merlin Dean Carolus
January 13, 1936 – April 15, 2018
Merlin Dean Carolus, 82, of Harlingen, Texas, entered the gates of Heaven on April 15, 2018.
Merlin was born to the late Ralph and Emma Carolus, January 13, 1936 in Klemme, Iowa. He attended Meservey ISD. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Craig (1936-2017) in 1954 in Mason City, Iowa who entered the gates of Heaven, September 2, 2017.
Merlin spent 42 years employed with the Home Insulation Company of Clear Lake, Iowa. He relocated for his retirement to Harlingen, Texas, in 1985. He and Marilyn managed Fig Tree RV Resort for a number of years and later resided to Sunshine Estates Country Club for the past 18 years. He became the handy man of Sunshine and there was nothing that Merlin could not repair. The residents could count on him for his help and was known as the "Go To" man of the Estates.
Merlin is survived by his sister, Lorraine Bartleson of Clear Lake, Iowa and twin brother Merwin Carolus of Mason City, Iowa. He was blessed with four children: Timothy Merlin (Jane) of Texas, Debra Ann of New Mexico, Kelly Dean of Colorado and Kevin Mike (Tani) of Mason City, seven grandchildren: Sara Jane Carolus, Alexis Rose and Benjamin Keith Jones, Mitchell, Steven, Tanner Gage and Seth Dean Carolus, several great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams St NW, Atlanta, GA 30303 (cancer.org). A celebration of Merlin's life will be planned in the near future in the family cemetery of his hometown in Mason City, Iowa.
