SHELLEY, Harriet Elizabeth 
Harriet Elizabeth "Betty" (Gilchrist) Shelley, 91, of Avon, wife of the late James B. Shelley, died in her sleep on Saturday (July 20, 2013) surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 25, 1921 in Doylestown, PA, daughter of the late Wilmer and Edith (Baker) Gilchrist. Mrs. Shelley was an elementary school teacher for many years in several communities, the last of her teaching years were spent in Canton. Musical by nature, she sang in and directed various church choirs. She was a member of the Avon Congregational Church. Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband, sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening, playing bridge and doting on her grandchildren. She was a local volunteer with both the Girl Scouts of America and the Boy Scouts of America. She is survived by her son Barry, his wife Elizabeth of Simsbury; her daughter Betsy of West Simsbury; and her grandchildren, Molly and Benjamin. She was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Gordon. 
To honor Betty's wishes, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Memorial donations can be made to VNA Healthcare, Att: Development Office, 103 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105. Just read, on line today, about your mother's passing. We are both so sorry to learn of your loss. She was a wonderful person & will be sorely missed by all. Our many years together on Haynes Road are happily remembered. God Bless you all.
