Mary Ellen Childress Scearce of Silver Creek Rd, Danville, Va. passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Mrs. Scearce is survived by her children; Amanda Hicks, Edward (Lea) Scearce, Lamar, S.C., Jimmy (Wanda) Scearce, Chatham, Va., Vickie Towler, Johnny (Cathy) Scearce; Sue (David) Jones, Jack Scearce, Jeff (Tera) Scearce, Orange City, Fla.; one sister Dean Payne of Pace, Va.

Mrs. Scearce was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Scearce Sr.; father, Harvey Childress; mother, Elizabeth Childress; and sisters, Martha Ann Barber, Elaine Childress and bothers, John Childress and Bernard Childress.

Mrs. Scearce has 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. And all the others who called her mother or grandmother.

She was a devout follower of Christ and a lifetime member of Sharon Baptist Church, Danville, Va.

She is remembered as a very strong lady who worked tirelessly for others especially for her children and grandchildren. Her love was always unconditional and given generously. Only eternity will reveal the hundreds of lives she has impacted in a very special way. Our lives will never be the same without her, but our lives are better and brighter because she invested in each of us with a love no one else could have given.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church and at other times at the residence. Interment will follow the service at Danville Memorial Gardens.
