Mr. Pernell Lanier, 90, of 1873 Mountain Road, Java, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, January 14, 2022, in SOVAH Health Care Center in Danville, Virginia.
He was born on June 28, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, the son of the late Charlie and Martha Blair Lanier. He was married to the former Elma Earnestine Barksdale, who survives.
Mr. Lanier was a member of Riceville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Margie Richardson of Chatham, Va., Linda Kelly (Ty) of Danville, Va., Sandra McKenzie (Starling), of Rustburg, Va., and Jennifer Stevens (David) of Columbia, S.C.; a foster son, Lee Miller of Hampton, Va.; three brothers, Ronnie Lanier (Della) and Thomas Lanier, both of Java, Va., and Lawrence Lanier of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Sylvia Stevens of Charlotte, N.C., and Vivian Lanier of Washington, D.C.; four additional sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, ahost of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Lanier will be conducted on Friday, January, 21, 2022, at 12 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park.
A public viewing will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 4 until 6 p.m. with the family in attendance. In accordance with CDC guidelines mask are required for all services.
Howerton Funeral Home is assisting the Lanier family.
