Walter Thornton, Sr., of 1001 Washington Street, Danville, Va. died Friday, January 15, 2016, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. He was born February 16, 1924 in Milton, N.C. to the late McKinley and Jennie Thornton.He leaves to survive one daughter, the Rev. Dorothy Hargrove; and one son, Walter Thornton Jr.The family will receive friends at the residence of Mrs. Yvonne McLeod, 1463 Myrtle Avenue, Danville, Va. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540, with the Rev. James Tyson of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, N.C. officiating eulogist. The wake will be held Thursday night, January 21, 2016, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
