CHESTER IVEY Obituary

Chester Hiram Ivey, 85, of London, Texas, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in Junction. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood, Texas, with the Rev. Tim Fahrenthold of the First United Methodist Church of Big Lake officiating. Chester was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Bronte, to Raymond H. Ivey and Amma Jane Whitaker. He married Lillie Opal Bledsoe on Sept. 18, 1933, in Shamrock, Texas. He worked with WTU for 42 years, first as a lineman. He was the first to work on refrigerator units in Western United States and became district sales manager. He belonged to the Lions Club in Marfa, Texas, and was president of the club for three years. Chester had a passion for hunting and fishing. After a short retirement, he spent 11 years as a rancher in Kimble County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Lillie Opal Ivey of London; two daughters, Gloria Mae Pool of Big Lake and Diana Sue Knight of Ennis, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Ray Ivey of Mertzon; and one uncle, Cumbie Ivey of Robert Lee. Pallbearers are Macario Mena, Justin Avery, Wesley Avery, Scott Knight, David Ray Pool and Jay Pool.
