GUADALUPE SANCHEZ Obituary

Guadalupe M. "Lupe" Sanchez, 82, of San Angelo, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in the V.A. Hospital in Bit Spring. Mr. Sanchez was born Dec. 19, 1920, in San Pedro, Mexico, to Theodoro Sanchez and Donaciana Mata Sanchez. He married Elizabeth Ramirez in 1946. Lupe was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II, where he was involved in the Normandy invasion. Mr. Sanchez was awarded two bronze stars and received the Purple Heart for participating during that campaign. Lupe worked for Harris Food Store for 20 years and City Lumber for 11 years. He was a member of Emanuel Christian Center. Mr. Sanchez was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Luis Sanchez; one brother, the Rev. Pedro Sanchez; and two sisters, Gavina Salina and Lydia Garcia. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Sanchez of San Angelo; a son, Samuel Sanchez and his wife, Yolanda, of San Angelo; four daughters, Sarah Garcia and her husband, Joe Ben, of San Angelo, Sylvia Lara and her husband, Rudy, of Del, Okla., Rosemary Nandin of San Angelo, Ernestine Payne and her husband, Don, of Pflugerville; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Juan Sanchez of Irving, David Sanchez of San Angelo and Jeremias Sanchez of Waco; four sisters, Maria deJesus Acosta of Abilene, Frances Florez of Waco, Janie Fernandez of San Angelo and Elizabeth Campos of San Angelo. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Santos Becerra Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be Neal Garcia, Gerald Lara, Richard, Robert, Raymond and Christopher Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Lara Jr. and Gabriel Garcia. Military graveside service will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
