NORMAN SAMUELS Obituary

ORLANDO, Fla. - Norman A. "Doc" Samuels passed away in Orlando, Fla., on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the ripe old age of 96. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., on April 7, 1911, Doc was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving his country with honor during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a Flight Surgeon. He graduated from NYU, completed his medical training in Edinburgh, Scotland and practiced for many years in New York City as a gastroenterologist. He was well-loved and respected by both patients and colleagues. On April 7, 1946, his 35th birthday, he married Marjorie "Red" Guenzberg, the love of his life, and they were devoted to each other until her passing in 2004. Red managed his office, and they were a great team. Doc had a passion for golf, ever chasing that elusive dimpled ball until his health did not allow him to play. He loved telling stories from yesteryear, of his military service and life in the early days, and sharing a good joke with friends. He and Red also enjoyed traveling to distant lands. Survivors include daughters Leslie Healy and husband Matt of San Angelo, and Laura Pitchal and granddaughter Julie Pitchal of Orlando. No services are planned. He was a great Dad and Grand-dad, and will be missed.
