Mary Butts Obituary

Mary "Angie" Butts, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on September 5, 2025, after a long courageous fight with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Baltimore Maryland she moved to Grand Rapids in 1954. She attended Catholic Central High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Bill, they were married for over sixty years.
She was an amazing mother raising four children in a rural setting. She was considered by many of the children's friends as their "Mom" as well. She started her career working in the classroom for Lowell Schools. She went on to have a very successful 20 plus year career at Amway Corporation, where she retired from.
She enjoyed many summers with her family at Crystal Lake and winters on Anna Marie Island Florida. She had an amazing sense of humor and real gift for making friends wherever he went. Many of these became lifelong relationships that she kindled by organizing lunches, visits and other events.
Although her body became weak and ravaged by the Parkinson's over the last few years, it could never diminish her spirit. It shined brightly each and every time you would see her. She was supported in her desire to remain at home by a truly amazing group of loving caregivers.
She is survived by her children De-De Mulligan, Joe (Annette) Butts, Paul Butts, Mary Beth (Randy) Stout, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her brother Dennis Roese, sister Laura (Doug) Smith, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Paul and Mary Roese, and her sisters Sharon & Judy Roese.
Relatives and Friends can visit with the family on Friday September 12, 2025 from 3-6 pm at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Services, 4291 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. *A short family remembrance of Angie will occur at 6 PM. An open house celebration will follow and occur at Quail Quest Condominiums club house. (5000 S Quail Quest Dr Grand Rapids, MI)

I met your Mom while working at Amway, we became friends & stayed in touch even after our jobs took us to other areas at the company & beyond Amway. Angie & I were golf partners for a couple of years, played cards, worked several DeColores weekends & was able to visit her & Bill several times on Anna Marie island.

I loved your Mom´s wit, her sense of humor & many other things. But I mostly loved her love for the Lord and her expression of Christ. I will miss her.

My love to Angie´s family. Angie and I were golf buddies and friends when we lived on Murray Lake in the 70´s. Loved her dearly!

Angie was a lifelong friend of 70 years. We made many memories together, including our marriages, raising our kids together, and getting old together. Angie had a beautiful gift of making everyone happy in her presence and sharing her wit and her laughter. I will miss you Angie!

I met Angie over 65 years ago. Her husband`s family lived across the street. There are not enough words to describe what a beautiful human being she was. We all loved her. It is certainly her turn to rest peacefully. I know that she will be remembered by so many with great love.
