Peter "Pete" H. Bowman
1949-2024
We mourn the death and celebrate the life of Peter ("Pete") H. Bowman, 74, of Brainerd, who died October 7, 2024 of heart failure at the Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Pete was born November 3, 1949 to Robert and Blanche (Hardy) Bowman in Crosby, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by both parents, his brothers Robin, Phil, Mike and Dennis Bowman, and his beloved wife Kristi Ann (Oakley) Bowman, who passed away in February this year. He is survived by his daughter Sascha (Ronn) Hess; grandsons Josh and Zach VanLue; granddaughter Kenadi Hess; brothers-in-law Steve (Kathy) Oakley, Jeff Oakley, Tim (Jenine) Oakley, and Jerry (Janice) Oakley; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Following graduation from Grand Rapids High School in 1967, Pete began college, but was then called into the US Army. He served with valor in Viet Nam, earning the Army Commendation Medal and two Bronze Stars. After service, he returned to college to complete a degree in accounting. The majority of his career was spent as an accountant with the State of Minnesota Department of Revenue. He married Kris, whom he adored, in 1987.
Pete had an enormous love for nature and the outdoors, enjoying every season of hunting, fishing, golf, and life with Kris at their summer place on Dixon Lake. Pete was a kind and generous person, always willing to help out his grandkids in any emergency. His family teased him about his penny-pinching ways, christening him "Tightwad Ted"; he was a faithful collector of coupons and a tireless reader of product reviews before making large purchases. He was a devoted and skillful fisherman, though known at times to be unaware his trolling motor was turning his boat in endless circles while he tied on new lures. He loved his Springer Spaniel hunting dogs, especially Lizzie. We will all miss sweet Pete more than we can say.
