David Swearingen Obituary

Swearingen, David

David A. Swearingen, 73, Oconto passed away Wednesday December 14, 2016. He was born August 24, 1943 to the late George and Carolyn (Klingbeil) Swearingen. He married Lois Alsteen in 1970. She preceded him in death in July, 2004. After the loss of his wife, Lois, he was blessed with marriage to a former classmate and friend, Shirley Bickel, who preceded him in death in July, 2011. David was fortunate to spend his time with Shirley, her children, their spouses, and all grandchildren whom added a ton of fun and enriching experiences to his life. He was greatly gifted by many wonderful nieces and nephews whom he loved and his loss will be deeply felt by many of the Swearingen children who were true gifts to him. He was further honored by many friends he met along the way and was proud to be a Mason and work alongside skilled tradesman in Wisconsin. David will be remembered fondly for a full life lived, he squeezed every bit out of the time he was given. He will be admired for his strength, loyalty, hard work ethic, however, most importantly remembered for his spontaneous nature that sometimes gave us all pause and he was never short on finding or creating a good time. He truly was a man who enjoyed every day, no matter what. Dave is survived by his children, their spouses and all his grandchildren, Jennifer, Phillip, Thomas and Tammy; Dave and Lois were grandparents to Alex, Cassandra, Sophia, Josephine, Selah, Hadassah and Brooklyn. He was also survived by his siblings Kenny (Sandy) Swearingen, Lois (Jim) Kondro, Joyce Wolverton, brother-in-law John Herman, in-laws Ernest Alsteen, Jr., Marlene (Mike) Wickman and Jacqueline Alsteen. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Swearingen and his little sister Deborah Herman, sisters-in-law Jan Swearingen and Lennice Swearingen, Maryann Schmitt and brother-in-law Francis Alsteen and Tom Wolverton, father and mother-in-law Ernest and Lorraine Alsteen. David's family will host his relatives and friends at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Oconto from 2:30-4:30 pm Wednesday. Memorial Service at 4:30 pm Wednesday December 21, 2016 at the Funeral Home with Deacon Walt Kaszynski officiating. A casual reception will be held at Crivello's on Main immediately following. A private burial will be held at the Mountain Cemetery where he will be placed to rest near his parents, siblings and wife. Please visit www.rhodescharapata.com to express online condolences. A special thank you is extended to his friends in Oconto who were a true blessing, his devoted siblings, a medical team second to none including Dr. Anthony Jaslowski, Marci Godlewski, MSN, FNP-BC, Dr. Christopher Rupp, and Dr. Rupp's caring team, the radiology department at St. Clare's, Oconto Falls and the registered nurses at St. Mary's Hospital who completed his care with devotion including Lindsay and Danae who provided care in his final hours.
