Paul E. Gerrits, 63, Green Bay, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 12, 2014. He was born May 24, 1950, in Green Bay to Harold and Audrey Gerrits.

Paul graduated from Preble High School, Class of 1968. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic in Vietnam where he received two Bronze Stars. In 1971, he married Donna Rentmeester and they had two beautiful children of whom he was so proud. Paul worked in the auto body shop industry for many years.

Paul loved being a Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and a friend. He loved spending time with everyone close in his life. He could always be found working on projects, junk picking on the road, cooking a great meal, traveling, and hunting on the land he loved in Neillsville.

Paul will always be known as 'Buppa' to grandsons, Flynn and Sawyer and shared a birthday with his dear granddaughter, Quinn.

Paul is survived by his two children, Joy (Tim) Vertz, Milwaukee; and Tyler (Danyel Rallof) Gerrits, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Flynn and Sawyer Vertz, and Quinn Gerrits; Paul's special friend, Terry DeGrave; his brothers and sisters, Mike (Barb) Gerrits, Tom (Cheryl) Gerrits, Andy (Lynda) Gerrits, Cathy (Jerry) Pinchart, Laurie (Mike O'Reilly) Larcheid, Jenny (Mike) Konyn, Patti ("Shorty") Leiterman, Wally (Debbie Rohloff) Gerrits; many special nieces and nephews; Super Bowl Weekend buddies, Kurt Johansen, Dave Burkart and Tom Rentmeester and his card playing buddies, Steve De Ruyter, Bill Zelazoski, and Don Brungraber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Audrey; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Gerrits.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Funeral Service, including full military honors performed by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 224 will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Good-Bye to my "Big Brother-Friend".
Paul was there to listen to me when my life was in turmoil and offer me advice and guidance over the past eight years. I will miss his humor as well as the canned goodies. Hey big brother!! We are going to miss you!! All of your teasing and joking around at family gatherings will be missed. We saw that twinkle in your eye when you saw your kids and grandkids. Just like Pa had when the grandkids came to visit. 18 months ago we thought we were going to lose you and again another one of your pranks. You fooled us, and gave us 18 months of having you here. Our only wish is that you fooled us again. But the good lord wanted you this time. You had a smile in the last year that did not go unnoticed. We saw that spark for life again.
