Robert Boyle Obituary
Green Bay - Robert R. "Bob" Boyle, 90, of Green Bay died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1927 in Escanaba, MI to Hugh and Dorothy (Meyer) Boyle.
He graduated from Escanaba High School where he was on the Eskymo football team. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 where the US Government paid for him to see the world. He was a graduate of Michigan State Normal School where he received a Degree in Education. Later, he received his Masters in Education from Northern Michigan University. On August 24, 1950, Bob married Shirley Pearson in Escanaba, MI. Early in his career, he taught in Cincinnati, Ohio and Benton Harbor, Michigan. It was there that his love of football continued as he coached the Benton Harbor Tigers. In 1967, he relocated to Green Bay where he worked as a social studies teacher at East High School. Two years later, in 1969, the Red Devils football team went undefeated, finishing as the third ranked team in the state under the coaching of Bob and his close friend Gene Bray. He has enjoyed countless visits from former players and students whose lives he touched. In addition to football, he also coached track, and was the school's athletic director. Bob continued to support all things East High, golfing with the "Cupcakes", playing cards, watching football and spending time with his family.
Bob will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Judy Paul, Katherine (Gary) Schott, Kerry (Mick) Surk; his five grandchildren, Kelly (Jamie) Verheyden, Rob (Amber) Paul, David Paul, Katie (Dan) Kornaus, and Scott Storms; his great-grandchildren, Lana and Ashlin Verheyden, Lucy and Stella Paul; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; two sisters, Betty and Nan; and his brother, Harry.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, on Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Raben officiating. He will be buried in Nicolet Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial has been established in Bob's name for the East High Athletic Fund. Bob's family extends a word of thanks to the caring staffs of Green Bay Oncology, Odd Fellow's and Rebekah Home Rehabilitation and Matt and Marie from Unity Hospice who made his last days more comfortable.

Over the course of ones life there are those who impact our lives in such a way that they stand apart. Mr Boyle was exactly that type of person for me.
I made a point of telling him how much he meant to me and how much I appreciated him the last time I saw him. A special educator. A special coach. He was the steady influence. I never recall him calling me anything but Tommy. When he said "good job Tommy" it meant something and it always will in my memory of him.
Mr Boyle. A big piece in the puzzle that is my life.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of my Uncle Bob. I can still see him laughing and swapping stories with my Dad, when they got together. They were a great generation, the like of which we will never see again. I may not have made it to see him, but it was a great comfort knowing that he was there...Always strong, sensible, and good! Go Packers!

Mr. Boyle was a tremendous teacher/coach and a wonderful person. I was fortunate to take one of his classes and play on his football and track teams. He had such a positive impact on my life as I became a teacher and football coach. His ability to bring out the best in his student athletes was a gift to many of us. My condolences to the Boyle family on your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was on the football team and the track team in the early 70's. Coach Boyle influenced my life more than any other teacher or coach in high school or college. I will always remember the discussions we had about life in general. He was such an inspiration for me. Coach Boyle will be sadly missed by all who had contact with him.

Sorry to hear about Coach Boyle. Good friend, great coach, better man. Bob could always tell great stories about high school football. Sorry I can't be there, he made a huge impact on me participating in sports. My favorite quote from Coach Boyle~ "Our team is red hot."

Mr Boyle was more than a coach or classroom teacher. Bob and Gene were role models and helped many a young soul stay on the path to success, including me.

My deepest condolences to the Boyle family - your Mom and Dad were truly gifts to the Bray family as well as to the East High community. What I remember most about both of them is their humor and their warm smiles. So many occasions were made all the richer because they were there. WHAT A GREAT COACH, MENTOR, TEACHER, GREAT PERSON. HE WAS SO EASY TO TALK TO, ALWAYS HAD A GREAT SMILE, AND IT WAS SO EASY TO LOOK UP TO HIM AS A ROLE MODEL. Your Dad was truly an amazing man. I had the privilege to play for him at Green Bay East and was part of the 1969 team that went undefeated. He taught me a lot about football and about life. He was the straw that stirred the drink. I was very glad to see and talk to him in November at our football reunion. A lot of good stories and memories were discussed that night. R.IP. Coach.
