HIGH POINT On Tuesday, August 2, Don passed away surrounded by his loving wife Kathy, sister Janice, and the caring staff at Hospice House at High Point, NC. Don was a kidney transplant survivor of 21 years (his sister, Patty, was his donor) but after having many years of fighting off different illnesses, he lost a courageous battle with mesothelioma cancer. Don was born in Lynn, MA, and moved to Florida with his parents Charles and Olive Moran in 1972. He received his master's degree in social work in 1990 from Florida State University and went on to become an expert in social work, family counselling and the mental health fields. In 2006, Don and Kathy moved to High Point, NC, where he continued his social work and helped so many throughout the Triad area. Don loved the NC Mountains, gardening, camping, fishing and getting out in his custom built, mahogany wood, 17' motorized kayak. Don fulfilled his lifelong dream to build this boat. In March, 2015, he retired due to illness, which was later diagnosed in November, 2015, as mesothelioma cancer. Don is survived by his wife Kathleen Moran of the home and three siblings; Dennis Moran and wife Debra of Arab, AL, Patricia Lesmerises and husband Norman of Orange Park, FL and Janice Moran Brown and husband Robert of Dahlonega, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, August 8, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas P.
