Kaye Merritt Obituary
August 2, 1938 - September 12, 2023
Kaye Burton Merritt, 85, peacefully passed away with her family by her bedside on September 12, 2023.
An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Madison United Methodist Church with Rev. Tracy Schumpert officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00am in the Church fellowship hall.
Kaye's pain and suffering from cancer, will no longer afflict her as she was a faithful servant and now in the presence of our Lord God, in Heaven. She humbly exuded her Christian faith with dedication to the community and since 1972, to the Madison United Methodist Church. Her teaching career ended in 1993, but when younger, she enjoyed playing golf as a member of Deep Springs Country Club, volunteering at the church, and participating in the Garden, Bridge, and Investor's clubs. Her greatest gifts were her thoughtful letters and cards written to thousands providing comfort and praise. Many people knew Kaye for her love of her cats, and her colorful garden. Her family life was abundant as she left behind her legacy to her two sons, their wives, her niece, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. May those who knew Kaye, never forget her humble spirit, giving heart, and sweet smile.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ruth Burton, her sisters, Ruth Collins and Gaye Burton, her daughter Catherine Merritt, and her nephew, Thomas Collins.
She is survived by her sons William Merritt, George Revis Butler, and niece, Flavel Collins; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren with one on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations made to the Visiting Angels of Charlotte, 1510 Orchard Lake Drive, Charlotte, NC 28270 or to VIA Health Partners (formerly Hospice Charlotte region), 7845 Little Ave, Charlotte, NC 28226.

I work at Waltonwood and Kaye came to many of the activities that I ran. She loved Bunco! She was a sweet, gentle lady that I enjoyed talking to and I will miss her.
