Searcy, Sr., Troy Debois

Troy Debois Searcy, Sr, 83, of Greensboro passed away peacefully on June 19, 2023. He was born in Rutherford, NC., November 10, 1939, to the late Chesley Clyo and Rachel Parker Searcy.

Troy attended Rutherfordton Spindale High School and was a professional baseball Triple A player for Rutherford County. He served 30 years on the Greensboro Police Department, retiring in 1991. While with the police department, he was a bodyguard for both Hank Williams, Jr., and Elvis Presley. He was also a member of the Army National Guard.

In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by his bothers, Ray Searcy and Larry Searcy and his stepdaughter Tracey Williams. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Kaye Hilton; sons. Troy D. Searcy, II (Dawn) and John C. Searcy; stepdaughter Laura Helmstetler-Cook (Anthony); grandchildren, Haley Searcy, Jake Searcy, and Amber Cook (Mandi); two sisters, Jane Pritchard, and Vicki Schappert.

An avid reader, Troy also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to garden and tend to his grape vineyard. Having played baseball, he especially enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Braves. Above all, he loved his home and children proving himself to be a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother sand friend. Traits that best described Troy were dependable, happy, helpful, knowledgeable, and honest – if you liked it or not. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Troy's life will be held on Monday June 26, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m.
