Barbara Roe Obituary

Barbara Phillips Roe

Clemson

Barbara Phillips Roe, age 79, of Clemson, SC, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. A native of New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late William James Phillips and Reba Christiana Wearne. Barbara was preceded in death by James M. Roe, her high school sweetheart and husband of 55 years.

She is survived by her children, Pamela Roe Coleman (David) of Germantown, TN, and J. Mark Roe of Greenville, SC.; her grandchildren, Kristin Gibson (Walker), Jonathan Coleman, James Coleman, and Abby Roe; her great-grandchild, Gracie Gibson; her brother, Bill Phillips; and her dearly loved cousin, Audrey Meagher.

Barbara received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Clemson University at age 45. She worked various places over the years, including at Clemson, but her favorite job of all was on the farm in Six Mile. Together with Jim, they enjoyed growing apples, berries, and later, raising cattle.

"Grammy" will be remembered for her beautiful smile, which could light up a room, her cheerful spirit and ever-present giggle. She had a knack for making everything around her lovelier, and always had a kind word to share.

The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers at Clemson Downs, Hospice Care of SC, and Griswold Home Care.

A service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, at Clemson United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, donate.cancer.org, or to the organization of one's choice.

I am Bobbie´s brother Bill.

A picture of her during the Miss New Jersey Competition in Atlantic City, N.J. sits along - side a picture of my father on a book shelf in my bedroom. I say hello to her very often.

We were eight years apart. She was a beautiful woman both in God´s given beauty and in personality.

We lived with my grandmother and grandfather until I was in the third grade outside of Wharton not far from Picatinny Arsenal.

I remember if I practiced my piano lesson she would take me to the movies in Dover and a treat at the Goodie shop afterwards.

We moved to Lake Hopatcong, N.J. It was and is a very beautiful place to live.

My sister was a beauty and competed in local beauty pageants including becoming Miss Lake Hopatcong, Miss Sussex County, Miss Morris County and finally the Miss New Jersey competition. She finished second.

I was always so proud of her, and admired everything she did.

She married her Dover high School sweetheart and my great friend Jim Roe eventually ending up building a house and taking care of many acres of apple, peach and pear trees finally raising cattle in Clemson, S.C.

I visited her there and she would always make sure I was loved and comfortable during my visits.

We grew closer as we grew older. I loved her dearly and do to this day, a cold damp day on March 7, 2024.

I will never stop loving her or her beautiful daughter Pam while I am still here on this earth.

So blessed to have a friend and sister who made my life happier every time I spoke to or visited with her.

I hope I get to see her again.

I Love You , Bobbie.

Your brother, Billy

Barbara was a patient of mine for many years, and I always looked forward to her visits. Her wit and keen sense of humor made her a fun person to be around. She had so much to be thankful for and remained upbeat even during the most difficult times of her life. I did not know of her passing until today. I am sad for her beloved family and for myself. I've missed her but will not forget the times we laughed together and the lovely, cheery person she was and is.

Howard Watson, I shared a dining room table with this very nice lady the 1st year I was at Clemson Downs. She was very proud of her family. I had a chance to meet her son Mark and daughter Pam and see pictures of great granddaughter Gracie.
